My name is Tim Voie. This is my 11th year teaching at Cascadia High School, and my 20th year in education. I can honestly say that I love my job. Teaching in an alternative school setting is extremely rewarding. Every day I have the opportunity to work with students whose goal is to graduate with a high school diploma, and it’s always inspiring when they reach that goal.
I had the opportunity to teach for five years in rural Alaska. Teaching in small, native villages was an experience of a lifetime. Chalkyitsik was my last village, and I was responsible for the entire curriculum in grades 5 through 12. I had 10 students, and although there weren’t a lot of kids, teaching them Math, English, Science, Social Studies, etc… was a daunting task. Those students became almost like my own children, and although it’s been 12 years since I left Alaska, I am still in touch with many of the people from that village located just north of the Arctic Circle.
I am the proud father of three fabulous children and the grandfather of two rambunctious toddlers. I’m heavily involved in the Tumwater Education Association (our local union), and in the fall I can be found roaming high school football fields on Friday nights in a black and white striped shirt, blowing a whistle, and throwing yellow flags as a member of the Southwest Washington Officials Association.
